Riverside Junior Tiger - April 29th

On Sunday April 29th, Junior Tigers from across Melbourne descended upon Riverside Golf Course for the latest instalment of our Tournament Schedule. The elite field of Blue/Black level players were greeted by cool conditions and a strong southerly breeze, which provided a stern test.

Play got underway at 2pm and it wasn’t long before the players realised it was going to be a tough, closely contested day. At the end of the day the tight 9-hole layout wilted and Jack Chrystie was left standing as the winner. Jack Chrystie of Riverside handled the conditions superbly with a round of 45 and recorded a one shot victory over Brighton's Lachlan Bridgeman. Both players can be seen below with their new trophy cabinet additions.

We would like to offer a big thankyou to all the competitors that turned out for the tournament and to Philip Tawa for running the event. The next event on the Junior Tiger Tournament Calendar will be held at Elsternwick on the 20th May at 2pm and is eligible for Blue/Black level golfers.

Happy Golfing!

Junior Tiger Tournament Brighton Golf Course

Golf is a game of tradition and ritual. People are drawn to the sport because of its tradition and timelessness.  It feels peaceful and serene to walks down the fairways at Brighton surrounded by beautiful mature trees and a variety of wildlife it is a magnificent place for adults and children to spend the day playing golf.

A very enthusiastic field of Junior Tiger golfers participated in the Easter Golf Competition. Golfers between the ages of 6-10 years old took on the first 3 holes at Brighton. The weather conditions were absolutely perfect at the sun rays glistened across nice lush fairways. Not even a breath of wind was blown during the competition which put a smile on the Junior Tigers faces. I was very impressed as were the parents by the sounds of the applause on the way around the golf course by the high standards of golf.  Few sounds are as pleasing as the sound of a well struck golf shot. Lucky for me that I had the pleasure of hearing and seeing many great shots during the competition! It is clear the golf coaching is helping junior golf in Australia and the standards of the golf players keep improving. I look forward to hosting the next tournament already!

Local star Ash Zadel played exceptionally well posting a score of even par 36 which included 4 birdies!

The sun was shining but winds at times were gusting up to 25 knots which made the golf course a real challenge.

2011 comes to an end for our fantastic Junior Tigers

Hello Junior Tigers!

As the year is coming to an end so is Junior Tiger for 2011. Our last tournament for the year has be run and won at Riverside Golf Course. An impressive field of 36 juniors took to the course in slightly windy and mild weather. It was great to see so many faces out there representing all the different levels from Yellow through to Black.

After the huge thunder and lightning show the night before, 25mm of rain fell on Riverside overnight. By the afternoon the clouds had cleared and the course had drained fairly well. The only casualties were the bunkers, which were rendered out of play. The first players to finish their rounds were from the Yellow and Red levels. They played a 3-hole competition consisting of the 1st, 2nd and 9th holes.

Congratulations to Hugo Hansen who won the Yellow level with a score of 20 and to Jordan Corso who won the Red level with a score of 18. Both boys played fantastically well and thoroughly deserved their win.

The rest of the field in White, Blue and Black played a 9-hole competition and were contesting for the coveted 12 month Wilson Staff sponsorship. The tournament was played fairly and in great spirit by everyone and in the end Jack Chrystie was announced the winner!

Jack hails from Riverside Golf Club and used his home ground advantage to perfection in taming the course with 6-over round of 40. This score was made all the more impressive when considering it was achieved off the public men’s markers.

Runner-up and only 2 shots behind was Rory Harrington. After shooting a beautiful round of 42, Rory was the first card in and was forced to wait nervously to see how his results compared. It was fair to say the wait was well worth his while. He also is from Riverside and is proud White level Junior Tiger.

It turned out to be an excellent afternoon and all the players showed respect, fair play and skill in creating a fabulous tournament. We look forward to crowning new winners in 2012!

The results were as follows:

White:

1st – Rory Harrington 42
2nd – Seamus McCorry 43
3rd – Dylan Cukalac – 47

Blue:

1st – Jack Noonan 45
